The Economist today featured as its lead article a story about 3D printing and how it will change the world. I was enthused and chagrined. Enthused because I’ve been shouting from the rooftops for over a year to anyone who will listen about the coming revolution in low-end industrial technology, with sadly little response from manufacturers whose entire business model is about to change. Chagrined because despite frantic efforts to organize PC-Media’s own website, offering 3D designs for fabricating items of clothing, events have out-paced us! We’re planning to acquire our first 3D printer with plastic extrusion capability, but we don’t have it yet. I’ll post here when it arrives.
